eSIM Activation Problems
❌ "The QR code won't scan"
Most common causes:
- The screen showing the QR code has low brightness
- Your phone's camera lens is dirty or out of focus
- The QR code has expired (codes are valid for 30 days)
- You already used the code on another device
Step-by-step solutions:
- Turn screen brightness up to 100% on the screen showing the QR code
- Clean your phone's rear camera lens with a soft cloth
- Move your phone closer or farther away slowly until it focuses
- Find a well-lit place (natural light works better than artificial)
- If nothing works, use the "Enter details manually" option:
- On iPhone: Settings > Mobile Data > Add plan > Enter details manually
- On Samsung: Settings > Connections > SIM Manager > Add eSIM > Enter manually
- Enter the SM-DP+ Address and Activation Code that came in your NAVEO email
If the code has expired: Contact soporte@naveo.mx with your order number. We'll send you a new QR code in less than 2 hours, at no cost.
❌ "eSIM not compatible" or "This device doesn't support eSIM"
Causes:
- Your phone doesn't support eSIM technology
- Your device is older than 2018
- Your original carrier locked the eSIM feature
How to check compatibility:
Compatible iPhones:
- iPhone XS, XS Max, XR and later (2018+)
- iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation)
- All iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16
Compatible Samsung phones:
- Galaxy S20, S21, S22, S23, S24 series
- Galaxy Note 20 series
- Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series
- Galaxy A54 5G, A55 5G
Compatible Google Pixel phones:
- Pixel 3 and later
- Pixel 3a and later
If your device is NOT on the list: Unfortunately, your phone doesn't support eSIM. Alternative options:
- Order a physical SIM from NAVEO (available for most destinations)
- Rent a Pocket WiFi at your destination airport
- Use your Mexican carrier's international roaming
❌ "You've reached the maximum number of eSIMs installed"
Cause: Phones have a limit on how many eSIMs they can store:
- iPhone: Up to 8 eSIMs installed, 2 active at the same time
- Samsung: Up to 5 eSIMs installed, 2 active at the same time
- Google Pixel: Up to 5-7 eSIMs installed
Solution:
- Delete old eSIMs you no longer use:
- iPhone: Settings > Mobile Data > Select the old eSIM > Delete Mobile Data Plan
- Samsung: Settings > Connections > SIM Manager > Press and hold the old eSIM > Remove
- Restart your phone completely
- Try scanning the QR code again
Important: Deleting an eSIM does NOT delete your NAVEO plan. It only removes it from your phone. If you have remaining days or data, we can reinstall it later.
Connection Problems
❌ "My eSIM is installed but there's no signal"
Most common causes:
- You didn't turn on "Data Roaming" on the eSIM
- Airplane mode is on
- The eSIM is disabled
- You're in an area with no coverage
Solutions in order (try one at a time):
Step 1: Check airplane mode
- Turn off airplane mode if it's on
- If it's already off, turn it on for 10 seconds and then turn it off again
Step 2: Turn on "Data Roaming" on the eSIM
- iPhone: Settings > Mobile Data > Your NAVEO eSIM > Turn on "Data Roaming"
- Samsung: Settings > Connections > SIM Manager > Your NAVEO eSIM > Turn on "Data Roaming"
- Generic Android: Settings > Mobile Networks > Your eSIM > Turn on "Data Roaming"
This is the #1 mistake travelers make. Without "Data Roaming" turned on, the eSIM will never connect to local networks.
Step 3: Check that the eSIM is active
- Make sure the eSIM toggle is in the "On" position
- Check that it's the default SIM for mobile data
Step 4: Force a reconnection
- Restart your phone completely (power off and on)
- Wait 2-3 minutes after turning it on
- Check if signal appears
Step 5: Manual network selection If there's still no signal:
- iPhone: Settings > Mobile Data > Options > Network Selection > Turn off "Automatic" and manually choose a local network (Vodafone, Orange, Movistar, etc.)
- Samsung: Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > Network Operators > Turn off "Select automatically" and choose an available network
❌ "I have WiFi but mobile data doesn't work"
Cause: Your phone is using WiFi and isn't switching to mobile data when the WiFi fails.
Solutions:
Test 1: Temporarily turn off WiFi
- Open the control panel
- Turn off WiFi
- Check whether pages load over mobile data
Test 2: Check the default SIM for data
- iPhone: Settings > Mobile Data > Mobile Data > Select your NAVEO eSIM
- Samsung: Settings > Connections > SIM Manager > Preferred SIM > Mobile Data > Select your NAVEO eSIM
Test 3: Turn off "Wi-Fi Assist" or "WiFi+" Some phones have features that keep WiFi active even when it's not working:
- iPhone: Settings > Mobile Data > Turn off "Wi-Fi Assist" at the bottom of the page
- Samsung: Settings > Connections > WiFi > Advanced > Turn off "Smart network switching"
❌ "The connection is very slow or unstable"
Possible causes:
- An area with poor coverage (basements, rural areas)
- Network congestion (many users on the same tower)
- Incorrect network settings (5G vs 4G)
- Apps consuming data in the background
Solutions to improve speed:
1. Change the network mode (from 5G to 4G):
- iPhone: Settings > Mobile Data > Options > Voice & Data > Change from "5G Auto" to "LTE" or "4G"
- Samsung: Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > Network Mode > Select "4G/LTE only"
Why does this work? In some areas, the 4G network is less congested than 5G and offers better real-world speeds.
2. Toggle Airplane Mode
- Turn on airplane mode for 10 seconds
- Turn it off and wait 30 seconds
- Your phone will reconnect to the best available tower
3. Close background apps
- Check which apps are consuming data
- Close streaming apps, automatic updates, and cloud syncing
4. Move to an open area
- Get out of basements, subways, or buildings with thick walls
- Move closer to windows or step outside
5. Check your actual speed
- Use speedtest.net or fast.com to measure your real speed
- Share the result with support if it's consistently below 5 Mbps
Data Problems
❌ "My data ran out sooner than expected"
Common causes:
- Apps consuming data in the background
- Automatic operating system updates
- Photo/video syncing to the cloud
- High-quality video streaming
- Tethering/hotspot with other devices
How to diagnose your data usage:
On iPhone:
- Settings > Mobile Data
- Scroll down to see usage per app
- Identify the apps consuming the most
On Samsung/Android:
- Settings > Connections > Data Usage
- Review usage per app
- Look at the daily usage chart
Apps that consume the most data:
| App | Average usage per hour |
|---|---|
| Netflix/YouTube (HD) | 1.5 - 3 GB |
| Instagram/TikTok | 600 MB - 1 GB |
| Zoom video calls | 500 MB - 1 GB |
| Spotify (high quality) | 150 MB |
| Google Maps (navigation) | 50 - 100 MB |
| WhatsApp (text/photos) | 20 - 50 MB |
Solutions to control your data usage:
1. Turn off automatic updates:
- iPhone: Settings > App Store > Turn off "App Updates" over mobile data
- Android: Play Store > Settings > Network Preferences > Update apps over WiFi only
2. Limit streaming quality:
- Netflix/YouTube: Set quality to "Data Saver" or "480p"
- Spotify: Use "Normal" quality instead of "High"
3. Turn off cloud syncing over mobile data:
- iPhone: Settings > Photos > Turn off "iCloud Photos" over mobile data
- Android: Google Photos > Settings > Back up > WiFi only
4. Use WiFi whenever it's available:
- Hotels, cafés, airports
- Save mobile data for when you really need it
5. Buy a data top-up: From mynaveo.com you can add extra GB to your existing plan without buying a new one. The process takes 2 minutes.
❌ "I can't use data even though I have GB available"
Causes:
- Incorrect APN (Access Point Name)
- Mobile network settings disabled
- Data restrictions on your phone
Solution: Check and configure the APN
The APN is the setting that tells your phone how to connect to the data network.
On iPhone: The APN is usually configured automatically. If it doesn't work:
- Settings > Mobile Data > Mobile Data Network
- If the fields are empty, contact support to get the specific APN details for your destination
On Android/Samsung:
- Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names (APN)
- Select the active APN (it should have a blue or green dot)
- If it doesn't work, create a new APN:
- Name: NAVEO
- APN: (support will provide it based on your destination)
- Leave all other fields at their defaults
- Save and select the new APN
- Restart your phone
If you don't know the correct APN: Contact soporte@naveo.mx with your destination and phone model. We'll send you the exact configuration in less than 2 hours.

- Look for "SIM Manager"
- Storage > Clear Cache
- Restart in Safe Mode to rule out conflicts with apps:
- Press and hold the power button
- Press and hold "Power Off" until "Safe Mode" appears
- Restart and check whether the eSIM works
- Restart normally to exit Safe Mode
Common problem: "Data Roaming turns off by itself"
Solution:
- Go to Settings > Connections > SIM Manager
- Tap your NAVEO eSIM
- Turn on "Data Roaming"
- Important: Turn off "Turn off roaming automatically" if it's enabled
- Save and restart your phone
📱 Generic Android Problems (Xiaomi, Motorola, Huawei, etc.)
Common problem: "Menus differ depending on the brand"
General path to configure eSIM on Android:
- Xiaomi/Redmi: Settings > SIM Cards & Mobile Networks > SIM Manager
- Motorola: Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Networks > SIMs
- Huawei: Settings > Mobile Networks > SIM Manager
- Oppo/Realme: Settings > SIM Card & Mobile Data
Common problem: "MIUI blocks roaming"
Solution for Xiaomi:
- Settings > SIM Cards & Mobile Networks
- Select your NAVEO eSIM
- Turn on "Data Roaming"
- Go to Additional Settings > Privacy > Location Services
- Make sure the Phone app has location permissions
Common problem: "Huawei without Google services"
If you have a recent Huawei without Google Mobile Services:
- Your eSIM will work for data
- Apps that require Google (Maps, Gmail) won't work
- Use alternatives: Petal Maps, Outlook, etc.
